“Levadas” of A Corredoira
The “levadas” are irrigation channels built by the monks of the Celanova Monastery, which helped the development of agriculture in the area.
They were governed by strict rules of use and failure to comply was a reason for serious sanctions.
The levada of A Corredoira is estimated to be the first irrigation system registered in the Iberian Peninsula.
