Church of San Salvador de Paizás
The parish church of Paizás is of a single nave, rectangular in shape, with angular counterforts in the great chancel, with a wooden cover over the waters. Except for the presbytery that has the flat roof four, having pinnacles in the four corners and in the summit, which is covered with semicircular barrel vault.
At the head of the presbytery a niche opens in which there is a delicate terracotta image of the Virgin and Child, which surely dates from the 16th century and has the date of 1952, when restoration works were completed. this part, having attached on this side to the sacristy of lower height and with a three-sided roof.
It emphasizes its main façade, witness of the Romanesque origins of the whole façade, it will preserve the Romanesque medieval style cover, as well as the canzorros that hold the aleiro on the sides.
The main door has archival and semicircular archivolts, with decoration forming a zigzag line. The archivolts rest on two pairs of columns, in which we can contemplate some interesting Romanesque capitals with anthropomorphic forms, on this door has a circular hole, and on this a cross in altarelevo.
On the right side, on a cartouche, is the coat of arms of the Benedictine monastery of Salvador de Celanova, which belonged and on the sides of the cimeira some decorative pinnacles.
On the south side there is a small entrance door with a tympanum with a legend and a semicircular arch.
It possesses a belfry of two bodies, being the first of two hollows with bells, the second of a single hollow, on the lateral pinnacles and on the top stone cross.
On the sides rectangular windows are arranged with the upper part in arch, this arch does not have those of the sacristy.
Inside the main chapel, vaulted, with arches that rise from some interesting historiated corbels, two of which come from Corinthian capitals.
Also in the interior, stands out in one of the collaterals, a dedicated altarpiece the Immaculate one and to San Jose it is what has more interest. It is from earlier times than the largest, as revealed by its Mannerist structure, of superimposed xonic and Doric orders, so it can be dated at the beginning of the 17th century. In the laterals it takes paintings: santa Bárbara and santa Lucia in the low body; and healthy Sebastian and healthy Ramón, these are clearly an addition of the eighteenth century.
In the sacristy, in a small niche, keep a small carving of healthy Rosendo famous saint of these lands, founder of the great monastery of healthy Savior of Celanova, which belonged #other this parish, efigiado as a bishop, looking like xove.
Second an ancient document, this church already existed in the year 889, which refers to the restoration of the church, which, due to its dilapidated state, could have existed since the seventh century.
