Chapel Virgen del Xurés
An old local tradition, passed down from generation to generation, tells us how one day the Virgin appeared miraculously on an altar carved into a rock outside the Chapel of A Virxe do Xurés. A slight hollow in the stone represents the sacred niche from where the Virgin ordered the construction of a temple, up there, to the residents of Riocaldo.
The faith in the miracles of the Virgin and the signs found, mobilized the people of this place to build a worthy chapel and an important access road, building a building with a large dose of heroism for the difficulty of reaching the chosen place.
This chapel, which is an emblematic work of traditional Xurés communitarianism, has a single nave with a wooden roof. Inside the temple, the image of the Virgin and Child stands out. A popular pilgrimage takes place in the chapel, in which the image of Our Lady is carried in a procession up the mountain.
