Canastros de A Merca (Set of granaries)
The concentration of Canastros of A Merca is the largest in Galicia, since it has a total of 34 copies, considering itself as one of the most important in Europe.
They were moved to the current location in the decade of the 70s of the last century in an initiative promoted by the public administration with the collaboration with the neighbors.
The disposition of the canastros maintains a similar orientation with the greater side of the camera, parallel the contour lines and with a diagonal, direction North – South. They are arranged in continuous rows that the same time adapt the conditions of the lot.
The materials are the characteristic of these constructions: stone, wood and tile. The stone is used in supports, either these (truncated conical or trunk-pyramidais) or strains (inverted trapezium). Wood being the material used for the formation of the camera, points and can. The roof is resolved with ceramic tile corva. They came to be rehabilitated in their entirety except one of them, of which only the supports remained. It is estimated that its construction in most cases is from the beginning of the 20th century.
